Surroundscape, Acrylic and oil stick on yupo, 78 × 60 in.

I think of space as something people produce together. As our everyday landscape becomes increasingly privatized and surveilled, I’m interested in the temporary worlds we build to interrupt that order, worlds whose boundaries are drawn less by property than participation. I look to dance floors, living rooms, airwaves, vacant lots, and other self-organized sites where people collectively reshape how they meet, relate to one another, and understand themselves. Through drawing, painting, print, animation, film, and sound, I ask what these fragile and ephemeral conditions might tell us about how space can be made otherwise.

Alissa Zilber (b. 1997) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Lenapehoking / Philadelphia, PA. Her work exposes the delicate, often unspoken connections between individuals, their spaces, and the emotional currents that flow between them. She has exhibited at AND Art Space (Montreal, QC), Second State Press (Philadelphia, PA), Procession Gallery (Philadelphia, PA), and Takt Kunstprojektraum (Berlin, DE), where she was an artist-in-residence. Zilber guest hosts radio shows on CKUT 90.3 FM and is the co-director of Bixi Thieves, an experimental multimedia project developed with Nicolas Lebrun. She is currently an MFA candidate in Painting at the Tyler School of Art & Architecture (expected 2027).
