MFA Printmaking, Room 260G

“Pink Rose, Soft Body,” 42” x 42",” Screenprint on cotton, sewing thread

Clifford’s practice explores ideas of personhood, the body, and the construction and deconstruction of identity within both internal and external environments. She is interested in the tension between what is cultivated and what is innate—how we build our identities in response to the spaces we occupy, and how those same spaces are shaped by our presence. Much of her work captures moments where human-made structures and natural worlds intersect, inviting reflection on the ways we exist within, move through, and affect our surroundings.

Clifford particularly drawn to the moments of connection and dissonance between people, and how these experiences of intimacy, vulnerability, and selfhood echo within our interior lives. These emotional landscapes are just as important to my work as the physical ones.

Materially, Clifford’s practice is rooted in layering—of process, image, and meaning. She works with serigraphy, intaglio, book arts, textiles, quilting, and natural dyes, allowing each medium to inform the others. She often combines traditional printmaking with craft-based processes, creating hybrid works that emphasize texture, pattern, and color. She thinks of the body as central to both the making and the reading of my work—how it oscillates between gesture and labor, touch and memory.
