Jamie Cabreza’s work in photography centers on the ubiquitous presence of discarded debris, primarily single-use plastics, found on the streets. By focusing on these micro landscapes, the artist addresses a larger environmental crisis—one where everyday objects contribute to the degradation of our habitat. There is a paradox at the heart of the practice: the images created from documenting trash can often be unexpectedly beautiful. The colors, textures, and forms of these objects—though remnants of a disposable culture—take on new life when gathered by the camera. This transformation invites viewers to reconsider their perception of these materials and participation is using them. While the work documents debris, it seeks to open a dialogue about how people engage with the things they discard and the lasting effects they leave behind.
