Using found materials, handmade fetish wear, soft sculpture, and assemblage, I explore how a person’s identity is shaped through loss. The recurring cat figure functions as a surrogate self-portrait, an animal historically associated with autonomy, deviance, and domestic intimacy. Through the experience of loss, these qualities come sharply into focus while simultaneously becoming inaccessible. By working with the figure and its wardrobe, I consider how love is inextricably tied to grief, and how one navigates both control and the profound lack of control that emerges within this unexpected form of human bondage.
