“Silver Tails,” 50” x 12” , Home Depot Carpet Squares, lint, skin, and sisal
JohnClaud Valentine Ruder works with found material, physical and virtual detritus to tease out nuances of bodily grief and masculinities. Lint acts as an extension of the body in their work; sisal stands in for hair. Beige and grey often are placed next to dark red crusted sculptures made from transformed, well-loved clothing. Like a piece of gum stuck on the floor of the office carpet, Ruder’s work is within the language of uncomfortable stains that bodies leave behind.
