Kasmira Snyder

To the window to the wall, Oil on canvas, 18 × 24 in.

My work deals with perception and the nocturnal landscape through created atmospheres that thread the line between safety and uncertainty. These psychological landscapes mirror women’s shared experiences after dark and the desire to assert our individualism first. We all deeply yearn to exist in space, taking our fair share, without being limited by our gender. We want to be able to walk home after an evening out with friends without looking over our shoulders, to skip through remote fields, and stroll through dimly lit streets without fear. We want to be taken seriously, respected, to occupy space, to captain our lives and fulfil our potential.

Kasmira Snyder

Kasmira is a second-generation immigrant from Wales raised in Corvallis Oregon. She earned her Associates Degree from Columbus State Community (Summa Cum Laude) later graduating with her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University (Summa Cum Laude). Her work explores themes related to personal and societal discord, identity, gender, and tradition.  As a figural painter she uses a variety of experimental mark-making techniques to build up transparent layers of paint, to create compelling and psychologically charged pieces.

Kasmira was awarded a 6-week residency at the Chautauqua Art Institute in New York in 2025 and was a recipient of the Greater Columbus Arts Counsil Artist Materials Grant. Kasmira’s work has been exhibited at institutions such as KSU Downtown Gallery, the Urban Arts Space, Hopkins Hall Gallery, The Chautauqua Art Institute and the Columbus Museum of Art.
