Meredith Young
Through my art practice, I aim for people to feel connected to the Earth and our Universe, both physically and spiritually. Art and the Earth are two of my most passionate areas. I feel strongly about advocating for our planet and fighting to protect it. Studying art therapy at Tyler School of Art and Architecture has led me down several different paths of art. I have learned so much about myself and my passions throughout my years here. I was given the opportunity to explore art-making from a psychological perspective that could help people who were struggling. Learning about the different ways that the process and product of art-making change people's lives challenged me to think about how it has affected my life. I never felt as though I had a style of art or any type of niche until I began creating pieces of the earth. The process made me feel so connected to the earth, and it felt as though I could show my appreciation for it in some way. I was finally able to capture the beauty of the wind in the trees and the sparkles in water. It did not feel like my appreciation was in my head anymore, but a physical embodiment of how deeply I cared for the world around me. Diving deeper into this area of art-making has enabled me to become more connected with other artists, my family, and my own spiritual side. I want to spread light and positivity through my artwork to the world!
My name is Meredith Young (she/her), and I am currently a senior at Temple University studying art therapy!
With my background being in art-making and psychology, I have plenty of experience in both fields. Outside of my school and work experience, I am a girl who loves nature, volunteering, and sketching! I am passionate about working with new people and learning from different perspectives. Experimenting with different media has led me to develop my art style, which is reflective of my personality.
I have been creating art pieces in a variety of media for as long as I can remember. Working in painting, fibers, printmaking, drawing, metals, and sculpture has shaped my artwork into what it is today.
As I continue my art journey, I plan to take more landscape-based painting classes, as much of my work encapsulates nature. I hope to engage in many more creative fields and grow in as many ways as possible!
