Michael Vasquez

"Outsider," 1920px x 1080px , Risograph animation

Michael Vasquez is a Queer Mexican-American multi-disciplinary artist whose practice centers around risograph printing and book-making. His work sits at the intersection of printmaking and graphic design, using the risograph print-method to explore memory, archiving, and the quiet passage of time. He is drawn to the bittersweet feelings that arise from noticing small, everyday moments—the kinds of experiences that often go unnoticed but linger in the mind. He’s interested in how small details can hold emotional weight and how slowing down to notice them can change the way we experience time.

The tactile qualities of risograph printing, with its layered textures and occasional imperfections, reflect the way memories fade, shift, and overlap. While the books he creates act as small personal archives, inviting people to hold and move through the work at their own pace, his pieces tend to feel calm and reflective, using gentle colors with small bursts of texture and brightness.

Michael’s practice captures stillness and honors the quiet rhythm of time passing, finding beauty and meaning in the ordinary.
