I get this sinking, weighted feeling when I picture about my childhood home. I remember every inch of it, and it fills me with incredible longing. I can see a sunny room, my favorite chair, my seventh birthday, all at once. It is a place I can never go back to. In every empty home, I think of memory like dust, the way it piles up at the corners of the room. I think of it as both the wear on the edges of doorframes and the thing that does the wearing down. Walls become containers for a century of existence and presence that exists only in the scuffs on the floor. I study what is left in emptiness, and push in minor points of interaction, ghostliness; intervention from beyond this place and time. The main question on my mind is, what is haunting, anyway?
