Wall Flasks No. 5-8, Closed form No. 1, Stoneware, underglaze, glaze, wood, 98 × 5.5 × 23 in.

am an artist immersed in material processes. The dynamics and constraints of a medium form the basis of my creative exploration shaping method, scale, and form, allowing concepts to emerge through problem solving. By exploring forms interacting across multiple materials and scales, I examine how function, symbolism, and meaning shift as materials impose new physical and conceptual demands. This approach aligns with traditions of modernist craft sculpture that foreground material intelligence and restraint. In my work, an object’s design is inseparable from its concept, and craft and material remain central within sculptural forms.

Light functions as both material and collaborator in my practice. Influenced by perceptual approaches associated with the California Light and Space movement, I explore light through absorption, reflection, and transmission. My interest in contemporary craft and design further informs how material choice, color, and structure shape experiential and utilitarian readings.

Photography extends this inquiry beyond the studio and functions as a conceptual tool rather than documentation. By situating objects within natural environments that have informed their making, images create a dialogue between material, place, and perception, emphasizing how environment shapes both process and outcome. This practice reflects an ongoing interest in material origin, landscape, and the transformation of matter through time and use.
